Mechanic A

Job Summary:

Herc Rentals is seeking to take on a leadership role in fleet maintenance operations. This master technician position requires expertise in equipment diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance. You will serve as a mentor to B and C level mechanics while ensuring all equipment is rental-ready through effective maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Perform and maintain a consistent schedule of preventative maintenance on all branch-owned fleet.
• Operate and test equipment to ensure compliance with Herc Rentals' quality standards.
• Independently diagnose and repair internal combustion engines, DC electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
• Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, tire replacements, hose repairs, and battery replacements.
• Perform major repairs using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and measuring instruments.
• Assist the shop lead in providing damage estimates and necessary repairs for customer equipment.
• Enter and review work orders, complete part ordering using the fleet management system.
• Recondition and replace worn or damaged parts on heavy equipment.
• Dispatch Field Service Mechanics when needed and handle service calls in the absence of the shop lead.
• Ensure the work area remains clean and organized.
• Maintain detailed service reports and repair logs.
• Assist in training C and B level mechanics while taking direction from the shop lead.
• Follow company procedures and safety protocols.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy equipment repair.
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ownership of an adequate selection of hand and air/electric tools for repair work.
• Ability to read and understand technical schematics, manuals, and product warning labels.
• Proficiency in operating and testing various equipment such as boom lifts, forklifts, compressors, generators, hydraulics, and pumps.
• Capable of driving and operating multiple types of vehicles and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle tools properly and safely.
• Effective time management and ability to follow up with customers.
• Competence in computer operations for work order management.
